Music in Teaching

How to use music to teach ANYTHING!

Music is a wonderful way to learn anything.  And it is easy to use music in the classroom.  Just use the music from a popular song that all the students know, and add your own educational lyrics.

For example.  I've been teaching English in a Chinese senior middle school (grades 10-12).  All the students are familiar with the music of Jingle Bells, Twikle Twinkle Little Star, Are You Sleeping?, and Auld Lange Syne (just to name a few).  And one of their units of the text book deals with nutrition.

So, I made lyrics to go with the music of the songs (aforementioned).

Like this:

To the tune of "Are You Sleeping?":

Are you sleepy?  (2x)

Eat a snack.  (2x)

Plenty of nutrition. (2x)

Not much fat.  (2x)

To the tune of "Jingle Bells":

Ingredients, Nutrients, ~ients all the way!

Oh, what fun it is to digest

Lots of fuel each day!

[repeat]

To the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle...."

Carbo, Carbo, Carbohydrate,

How I want you on my plate!

Protein, Fiber, Vitamins, Fat,

How I wonder where you're at!

Carbo, Carbo, Carbohydrate,

How I want you on my plate!

To the tune of "Auld Lange Syne":

If I would like a good condition,

I ought to have nutrtion.

If I would like a good condition,

And plenty of energy,

I'll take cup of carbohydrates,

And a cup of protein, please!

And, don't forget my vitamins,

A,B,C-D, and E.
